In March 2012, OSHA issued a revision of the Hazard Communication standard that integrated many components of the United Nations' Globally Harmonized System of Classification & Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) into US law. Many of the most significant changes in the revised standard involve safety data sheets and container labels. Chemical manufacturers and importers will be required to provide labels and safety data sheets in mandated formats that include harmonized signal words, pictograms, and hazard statements for each hazard class and category. Precautionary statements must also be provided. Employers are required to train their existing workers by December 1, 2013 on the new labels elements and safety data sheets format to facilitate recognition and understanding.
Thousands of organizations used Genium's original MSDS Pocket Dictionary to cost-effectively train over two million US workers how to read and effectively make use of the first generation of safety data sheets and labels. Genium's new 80-page forth edition now includes everything your employees will need to fully understand and begin using the new generation of these vital hazard communication tools including:
- A section-by-section review of the newly mandated safety data sheet format
- Easy-to-understand definitions for all of the GHS harmonized hazard statements, signal words, and precautionary statements that your employees will soon encounter on data sheets and labels.
- An at-a-glance look-up chart of the nine different GHS hazard pictograms OSHA's revised standard now mandates
